Boon Sheridan, Author and Design Researcher

Time to do research is a precious commodity you shouldn't waste. After writing scripts, recruiting participants, and sifting for insights, you want to make informed decisions. However, sometimes projects wrap with results that breed confusion.

Positive responses to a feature or design don't always translate to user success or adoption. Even worse, after the time you spend on research, you might come away with neutral or non-committal results that don't help your team move forward.

There can be many reasons why your research efforts didn’t yield the results you want from them, and in this Master Class webinar, Design Researcher Boon Sheridan will take you through many of them. He’ll show how to avoid common mistakes in Product Research and how to get meaningful feedback that actually helps you make decisions.

You'll learn:

  • How to develop stages of product research and what types of insights will help you
  • What kinds of research methods can generate the insights you need
  • Whom to interview to make sure you get the most from user recruitment
  • What questions to ask to avoid false positives that mask unfavorable outcomes
  • When to course-correct during a research project if results don't meet your goals

If you work in product research, there's nothing worse than spending time and effort on a research project only to find that it doesn't answer vital questions. Inefficiencies and complications can arise anywhere between research planning and evaluation, but by being aware of common pitfalls, you can prevent them with timely adjustments.

Join this Master Class webinar and learn how to craft research that’s better prepared for success. Even if you cannot attend the webinar live, register to get access to a recording that you can watch anytime afterwards!

Continuous Product Discovery: The What and Why

Photo of Teresa Torres
Teresa Torres, Author and Product Discovery Coach

Conventionally, product discovery occurs at the start of building a new product, or as part of big, standalone projects. This is usually a way to validate the team’s assumptions and decisions, rather than a way to discover where product development ought to start from. Many of us are still stuck in a project world. We do research to kick off a project, we usability test right before we hand off to engineers, and our primary means for experimenting is a/b testing.

These methods are better than nothing, but the best product teams are shifting from a project mindset to a continuous mindset. Continuous product discovery aims to shift research into a customer-driven process, where product design teams work with customers to co-create their products. This involves breaking down user research into small, more frequent activities that product teams can undertake on a regular basis.

In this 1-hour Master Class webinar with Teresa Torres, you’ll learn:

  • The key differences between project-based discovery and continuous discovery
  • How to give your team a clear benchmark to aspire to
  • How to define a realistic frequency and scope for research
  • How to apply the outcomes of your research towards continuous improvements
  • Examples of how continuous discovery has helped real product teams

Continuous discovery is possible across various industries, in product teams of all sizes, and against many types of constraints. You’ll discover how to craft an approach that works best for your team—whether you want to start small or go big, you’ll unlock incredible advantages for your product when you practice continuous discovery.

Even if you cannot attend this webinar live, register to get access to a recording that you can watch anytime afterwards!

How To Deal With Peo

How To Deal With People Who Don't Get Design

Have you ever found yourself explaining what you do as a źŲƱApp designer over and over again? Ever had to correct a misinformed colleague who thought you make images look pretty with Photoshop? Ever felt frustrated at being consulted only after major product decisions were made? Even though źŲƱApp Design is no longer a new or unknown term, in traditional organizations and development teams alike, **people can be unclear about what exactly a źŲƱApp designer does, what their unique skills are, or where exactly they fit in.** As a źŲƱApp designer, this means that you need to fight extra hard to make a case for your own work, and educate your colleagues about the role and importance of źŲƱApp design. In this Master Class webinar, discover how as a designer, you can get—and keep—a seat at the table for every big business and product decision. You’ll learn: - How to identify and anticipate obstacles to źŲƱApp design in your company - How to elegantly manage false expectations about źŲƱApp design - How to align your design practice with the organization’s strategy - How to work more seamlessly with non-design teams - How to fight common misconceptions about źŲƱApp design within your company This Master Class webinar is taught by **Morgane Peng, Design Director at Societe Generale**. Morgane made a career transition **from finance to źŲƱApp design**, driven by the urge to improve the badly designed enterprise software she encountered when she worked in finance and consulting. Currently, she leads design teams at a 150-year-old banking company, and based on her experiences, she will share with you humorous and useful tips on how **you too can carve a niche for źŲƱApp design, no matter the size or age of your organization!** With Morgane’s help, you can spend more time doing the creative work that you love, and less time fighting to get taken seriously as a źŲƱApp designer. How To Conduct Effec

How To Conduct Effective User Interviews

To design a delightful product, it isn’t enough to have your user in mind—*you need to truly know your user’s mind*. And the most effective way to achieve this is through user interviews. User interviews are extremely useful at answering many different kinds of questions that emerge during—and even before—the design process. This makes them one of the most popular user research methods in practice. While user interviews do offer a chance to chat with your users, your interview session should not devolve into just a casual conversation. Instead, to conduct truly effective user interviews, you should treat them like a scientific exercise—with careful planning and systematic execution. Watch this Master Class webinar for an in-depth guide to user interviews. You’ll learn: • What user interviews are and why they are important • When you should conduct a user interview • How to prepare yourself and your team for a user interview • How to effectively conduct a user interview • How to analyze and use findings from user interviews You’ll learn how to carry out your own user interviews with valuable insights from **Joshua Seiden’s 20+ years of design leadership**. His expertise in Agile and Lean źŲƱApp will help you refine your user interview methodologies. From this Master Class webinar, you'll learn how to optimize your user research methods to deliver insights in the most efficient way possible. źŲƱApp Magic: Achieve 10

źŲƱApp Magic: Achieve 10X Better Designs Through Semantic Interaction Design

Do you know how much cognitive load your design ideas will place on the user even before you sketch out the first screen? If the cognitive load of your design is too high, users will find your product difficult and unpleasant to use. It's possible to measure cognitive load in a usability lab, but by then it is usually too late and too expensive to fix the underlying problems. The solution? You need to know how much cognitive load your users will face and mitigate it at the beginning of your design projects. In other words, the intent to minimize cognitive load should guide your design practice from the very start. In this Master Class, Daniel Rosenberg introduces Semantic Interaction Design, a revolutionary method that spans all the way from core conceptual models to the deployment of applied game theory techniques to create optimal experiences for users. You'll learn: - How cognitive science lends itself to Semantic Interaction Design - Real examples of the benefits and success of this new approach - How to convert product requirements into initial źŲƱApp designs 10X faster - How to design with higher initial quality - The 4-layer źŲƱApp framework that unifies źŲƱApp grammar, presentation, flow and game theory - How this method incorporates data driven business decisions to guide product success This Master Class is based on Daniel Rosenberg's book [**źŲƱApp Magic**](https://www.amazon.com/źŲƱApp-Magic-Daniel-Rosenberg/dp/1708061614), which explores how designers can transform product requirements into rich experiences. You'll learn how to maximize the efficacy of your design using the smallest number of screens and flow steps. The result? You'll design experiences that are intuitive and enjoyable for the user, resulting in sustained success for your product. Forget the “fail early, fail often” myth of trial and error źŲƱApp design. Professor Rosenberg will show you a proven recipe for getting it right on the first try!
